CameraAdapt · Last updated 15 September 2026

CameraAdapt is operated by Oskar Bruce, United Kingdom.

CameraAdapt helps you recreate a photograph's look on your own camera and lens. This policy explains what the app does with your data. In short: the app has no accounts, collects no analytics, and keeps your library on your device.

We do not require an account, and we do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for advertising.

What stays on your device

This information is stored locally on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it.

Photos you upload

If you choose to analyse your own reference photo, the app resizes a copy of that image and sends it to our analysis service, which forwards it to OpenAI's API to describe the photograph's lighting, depth of field and colour treatment.

If you never upload a photo, no image ever leaves your iPhone.

Revoking your consent

Photo analysis is entirely optional, and you can withdraw your consent at any time: open the Profile tab and turn off "Analyse my own photos". The upload feature is then hidden throughout the app and no image will be sent anywhere. The bundled reference looks continue to work: their camera settings are calculated on your device, and only the look's text description and your gear selection are sent to write the editing recipe. No image is involved. You can turn the setting back on whenever you like.

Technical information we receive

Whenever the app contacts our service — for photo analysis or to write an editing recipe — it receives a randomly generated device identifier (Apple's "identifier for vendor") so we can apply fair-use limits and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID, and it changes if you delete and reinstall the app.

How long data is kept

Data Retention
Uploaded photo Not stored by our service beyond the request. OpenAI, which analyses it, keeps API requests in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, unless the law requires longer, then deletes them.
Text sent to write an edit recipe For a bundled look, the look's text description and your camera, lens and editing app choice are sent to OpenAI, which keeps API requests in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, unless the law requires longer, then deletes them. Our service caches the resulting recipe, keyed on the look, gear and editing app only, with no device identifier, so the next person with the same pairing gets it without a new request. Recipes for photos you uploaded are never cached.
Rate-limiting device identifier Stored in our database as one row per device per day (the identifier and a request count), used only to apply the daily fair-use limit. Rows for past days are periodically deleted. The identifier is never stored alongside any look, gear or recipe data.
Saved looks, thumbnails, gear and preferences Stored on your iPhone and kept until you delete them in the app or delete the app itself.
Subscription status Held by our subscription provider for as long as the subscription record exists.

Subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription provider. We receive your subscription status and an anonymous purchase identifier. We never receive your payment card details — those stay with Apple.

Third parties who process data for us

We use three service providers, and no others:

Each of these providers is contractually required, under the agreements and terms that govern our use of their services, to protect your data to a standard at least equivalent to the one described in this policy, to process it only for the purposes set out above and on our instructions, and not to use it for their own unrelated purposes. We do not share your data with anyone else.

Photo library access

The app uses Apple's system photo picker. We only ever receive the specific image you choose; the app cannot browse your photo library.

Your rights (UK and EU)

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, data protection law gives you the following rights over your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, email contactforbruce@gmail.com and we will respond within one month. Because the app has no accounts, most of your data never reaches us and lives only on your iPhone, where you can view and delete it directly. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local supervisory authority.

Children

CameraAdapt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
